Fisherman's Cove, a restaurant specializing in Jamaican cuisine, has moved from the spacious digs on the west side of Newkirk Plaza to the east side of Newkirk Plaza. The new space has diminished seating but the kitchen seems to have made a seamless transition with a sparkling new facade.
My source tells me that the former space for Fisherman's Cove will soon be occupied by a chain specializing in the same type of food that Fisherman's Cove specializes in.

Grub Street - Newkirk French Bistro
Grub Street has more scoop on the new French Bistro on Newkirk -
Ditmas Park is taking another step toward being the next big Brooklyn neighborhood with an addition to its scant restaurant scene. There now is the Farm on Adderley, Picket Fence, and a guy that cooks ribs on the street outside of left-wing cafe Vox Pop. But help is on the way, reports the Ditmas Park Blog. Gary Jonas and Allison McDowell, the owners of the Farm on Adderley, are planning on opening a small bistro on Newkirk Avenue, currently best known for its laundromats and ill-stocked Indian groceries. The two will be operating partners with Pacifico and Patois owner Jimmy Mamary. We asked McDowell about it, and she explained the plan: “It’s going to be tiny. We’re not doing a big, family-friendly neighborhood restaurant there. It’ll be more grown-up, European, but there won’t be a liquor license, just beer and wine. We’d like Tom Kearney, our chef at Adderley, to do the menu, but that’s still up in the air.” So, apparently, is the name: We’re suggesting the Barn, but only because Lentils & More is worse.

NEWKirk, Music on the Plaza
Newkirk Plaza had a function this evening-- NEWKirk, Music on the Plaza. They had the same function on the two preceding Thursday evenings. Essentially the event was live/ recorded music, staff giving out balloons, a raffle and a guy making elaborate balloon animals for the kids. I discovered it last week and next week is the last week for this four part series. The music is in front of Pablo's Restaurant and the staff is milling around with the crowd.
Tonight was week 3 of a 4 week series. I think it was a great idea for the families of the neighborhood. The only downside was that the balloon maker pretty much made anything the kids wanted. The elaborate balloon animals caused some serious delay in servicing the 50 or so children. Luckily my two children were pretty good (for a change) waiting on the line for roughly an hour. Larger families clearly had a different experience, some good and some bad. While it's great that "little Joey" got an elaborate Spiderman hat, the kids should have had a limited choice to service everyone. My sons swords and holsters were perfect for the boys. Maybe a butterfly for the girls? Or a boat? Let us see what happens next week.

Brownstoner - Going, Going...Almost Gone on Newkirk

Brownstoner has the latest on the Thomas Brush House, which is being put up for auction next week:
Are you an adrenaline junkie who's been having a hard time finding a house in Victorian Flatbush? Have we got the place for you. On Thursday, this 1931 mansion, which is currently classified as a church, is going on the auction block to satisfy an outstanding lien of $878,821. Given that this house sits on a large lot and there's tons of unused FAR, don't be surprised if one of the unscrupulous developers tries to take you out with his auction paddle. Has there been any chatter locally about this? What's this stretch of Newkirk like? The auction takes place on November 16 at 3 o'clock at the Kings County Courthouse, Room 261, 360 Adams Street. Good luck!Going, Going...Almost Gone on Newkirk [Brownstoner]
