Pomme De Terre, Ditmas Park West's future French Bistro, has gained some "pre-open" press from New York Magazine. This is the latest venture for the Farm of Adderly's Gary Jonas. As a resident of Ditmas Park West it's nice to have a restaurant "right around the corner". Hopefully they can open by the International Day of Francophonie, which is the the day French speakers rejoice in their knowledge of the French language. More to come..

New French Bistro on Newkirk confirmed for 2008 and new restaurant/bar at Cornerstone in the works
Ben Smith reports on 10/22-
Confirming a tip in the comments section yesterday, I asked the folks who run the Farm on Adderley about the timing of the planned French bistro on Newkirk and Argyle.
Gary Jonas emails that he and his wife, Allison, "are opening up a French bistro on Newkirk. We are partnering up with neighbor Jim Mamary, who is responsible for much of Smith Street. We are hoping for a Christmas opening, but it could be pushed back to Jan/Feb."
and also on Miscellaneous stuff - on 10/17 Liena posted leading to this long thread-

Behar Review on Grub Street
Somewhere in the world there may be a train line that covers more gastronomic territory than the B and V subway lines, which start in southernmost Brooklyn and end deep in Queens, but if there is, we don’t know about it. For the next twenty-odd weeks, we'll be riding the B and V from Coney Island all the way to Forest Hills, jumping off frequently to rave about our favorite restaurants and food stores near the subway.
This week: Newkirk Avenue
According to local lore, the neighborhood of Ditmas Park West is the most ethnically diverse Zip Code in the country. We could well believe it: Walking the four or five blocks from the Newkirk stop, you pass Bangladeshi convenience stores, a Jamaican fried-fish restaurant, a Latin American luncheonette with the alluring smell of fried lard wafting out, a West African laundromat, an Israeli auto shop, and then, finally, cross the perilous, lawless Coney Island Avenue. Only then do you get to what could be the city’s top Afghan kebab house, Behar.

Time Out New York Kids: If you want a tight-knit community, try…Ditmas Park
Ditmas Park is featured in May's issue of Time Out New York Kids this month with our very own Alexandra Reddish touting the family friendly aspects of Victorian Flatbush.
“People originally from other parts of the country like this area because it reminds them of home,” says Alexandra Reddish, mother of three and an agent with Mary Kay Gallagher Real Estate (Mary Kay is her grandmother, and a longtime Ditmas resident). The spacious landmarked Victorian houses and relative quiet of Ditmas Park—and its neighbors, including Prospect Park South and Midwood—just might have something to do with that. And get this, frustrated car-owners: On a recent walk around the nabe (on an alternate-side-of-the-street-parking day, no less), we noticed a whopping eight available spots.

Dine in Brooklyn - Restaurant Week Begins
Brooklyn's Restaurant Week begins for the 4th year throughout the borough with more than 175 restaurants serving three course dinners for only $21.12. Dine in Brooklyn serves as a wonderful opportunity for restaurant-lovers to experience Brooklyn's many outstanding restaurants.
Here in Ditmas Park, be sure to make your reservations at Picket Fence, which was chosen this year by The Post as one of the Top 10 Tables to try.
"Brooklyn is the borough that caters to tots, and Picket Fence aims to please parents and kids alike with family-friendly service and an open toy basket. Surrounded by the gorgeous Victorian homes that dominate the beautiful small-town setting of Ditmas Park, the bright yellow Picket Fence serves home-style favorites like smoked Gouda mac and cheese and buttermilk chicken."

New York Magazine - Best of New York Eating and Drinking 2007
The Farm on Adderly continues to impress all... even New York Magazine.
"In the realm of French fries, as in life, looks can be deceiving: Those pommes frites stacked up in a bountiful pile beside your hanger steak might be tall, dark, and handsome, but one bite exposes them as the limp and flavorless impostors they all too often are. That’s not the case at the Farm on Adderley, the rustic new Ditmas Park hangout where chef Tom Kearney takes his fries so seriously, he’s perfected the technique for achieving not only the ideal golden sheen but the quintessential crunch. In the Belgian tradition, Kearney fries his skin-on, hand-cut Idahos twice—first at 300 degrees, then at 340, though he’s been known to go down as low as a nearly unheard-of 325. The lower the temperature, he postulates, the slower they cook, the more water evaporates, and the better the caramelization, color, and crispiness. Despite the school of thought among some chefs that dirty oil, full of unidentified particulate matter, makes for crispier fries, Kearney keeps his canola oil pristine. The curry mayo he serves alongside is tasty, too, but, to Kearney’s credit, entirely irrelevant."
Update: The Farm on Adderley's monthly Beer and Cheese Tasting is this
Wednesday, March 14th at 8:00pm. Bierkraft specialists speak about
this months topic: "Dark Beers" from Brown Ales to Stouts. 5 Beers, 5
Cheeses. $20 per person.

The Farm on Adderly makes the 2007 Platt list in New York Magazine
"The Farm on Adderley, which opened not long ago amid the clutter of 99-cent stores and bodegas on Cortelyou Road in far off Ditmas Park, is where my pioneering Brooklynite friends go to experience the joys of Haute Barnyard cooking."

Ditmas Park: New Center of the Food Universe?
Brooklyn's Ditmas Park, known primarily for its immense Victorian houses, may never be as hip as Red Hook. But, in a sea change reminiscent of Red Hook's Van Brunt Street, a cluster of new food ventures are springing up there along Courtelyou Road. The strip began its upswing last year with Picket Fence, whose kitchen we've praised as "disarmingly daring." This past summer, the Farm on Adderley, an equally ambitious restaurant with a first-class bar, opened. (They just began serving inventive brunch items on Sundays.)Now comes word that TB Ackerson Fine Wine Merchant will open a store, on November 1, specializing in organic and biodynamic wines at 1205 Cortelyou Road and that Park Slope candy shop–ice-cream parlor Rapper's Delight will move to Ditmas Park. There's no equivalent of Sunny's or Fairway in the neighborhood, but who's to say what the next year might bring?

Renovations Follow Families to Victorian Flatbush
A seven-block stretch of Cortelyou Road in the Victorian Flatbush area, where families looking for four-plus bedrooms and suburban-style backyards are increasingly scooping up homes, will soon be adorned with Belgian block-edged sidewalks, park benches, dozens of new linden trees, and a freestanding cast-iron clock. While a children's boutique and a couple of cozy cafes have put down roots on Cortelyou Road in recent years, the so-called streetscape renovations are expected to attract a bevy of new, higher-end businesses, and create a shopper-friendly atmosphere. The $1.2 million city-funded project also comprises the teardrop-style streetlights installed last summer, according to the Flatbush Development Corporation. The FDC is coordinating the project, which has been two years in the works and is slated for a summer 2007 completion. [more]
Interesting article in today's NY Sun about the on going business developments on Cortelyou Road. These improvements add to the existing scene on Cortelyou including The Farm on Adderley, Picket Fence, Cornerstone Pub and Vox Pop. The collection of restaurants create a unique diverse neighborhood to eat and drink with the whole family.

I have inside information that a person who owns a very popular restaurant/bar in Park Slope is seriously negotiating with the owner of the Cornerstone. He is not planning on having a kitchen but will probably offer sandwiches....he has many good ideas.
Keep your fingers crossed.
